Lompoc Girls Basketball raises funds for Templeton's Shelby Sudbrink Scholarship

The loss of Templeton's Shelby Sudbrink made the Lompoc Girl's Basketball team want to help out their fellow Los Padres League members. Especially because they had just played Shelby and the Eagles.

During their rivalry game versus Cabrillo, the Braves held a bake sale and sold 50/50 tickets to raise funds for Shelby Sudbrink Memorial Scholarship. The winner of the 50/50 tickets donated the money back. In total, Lompoc raised over $600.

"It affected us because we just played against her," says Braves post player Danielle Morgan. "We just saw her and we just, as a team, we realized life is short. And we have to live it to the best of our ability."

"My heart just literally dropped when I found out on Friday morning about the accident," says Lompoc head coach Claudia Terrones. "It's kinda one of those things that as a parent, you have to reach out and hope and pray for their community and school." The Braves plan to present a check to the memorial scholarship when they travel up to Templeton for another game with the Eagles on January 26th.
