Shelby Sudbrink was a well accomplished senior at Templeton High School when her life was cut short by a tragic car accident, just five months before she would have graduated.
Shelby was a lifelong Eagle. She shined in every grade, always loved by all of her teachers. Not only did she shine as a student, but she had a very competitive spirit and excelled at all sports. Shelby was a leader, serving as co-captain of the varsity basketball team for two years. Her jersey (#12) is now retired at THS.
Shelby had an incredibly kind heart, accepting everyone for who they are, always with a smile. Though she was a gifted artist, Shelby’s plan after high school was to attend a four year university and study medicine, with hopes to one day be a pediatrician.
To honor Shelby’s memory, her family has started the Shelby Sudbrink Memorial Scholarship Foundation. The foundation will be awarding one scholarship every year to a female Templeton senior athlete who exemplifies the qualities of their beloved daughter. The scholarship recipient will receive $1,212.12 at the start of two academic terms per year* for up to eight terms, totaling nearly $10,000.
To apply, please complete the application and attach an essay and at least one letter of recommendation.
In the essay, tell us about yourself and your goals in 500 words or less. It should tell us who you are as a person and how this scholarship will benefit you and your family. Your letter(s) of recommendation should be from a teacher, coach at THS, or someone in the community. (Letters from a family member or friend will not be considered.)
The recipient must submit proof of being registered full-time at the start of each term in order to receive the scholarship funds for that term. For schools on the quarter system, the funds will be given at the start of the first and third quarters. The recipient has 5 years from the start of their first year to receive the scholarship funds. The recipient must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA for each academic term she is receiving the scholarship.
